Meet Tony, an extraordinary individual whose resilience and advocacy shine bright within the amputee community at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. Six years ago, Tony faced the challenges of above-the-knee amputation (AKA) due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes and Peripheral Artery Disease. Despite his own journey, Tony has dedicated himself to supporting and educating others, attending Physical and Occupational Therapy classes to share insights into life as an amputee.
Through Tony's courage and unwavering dedication, he has become a beacon of hope as an amputee peer advocate. His recent strides include receiving a new high-end foot and clothing, preparing for new job opportunities, and potentially receiving a new socket. These vital resources not only enable Tony to walk with confidence but also empower him to pursue his passions, from attending classes to engaging in yard work and all the activities he loves.
