Sam's Story
For Sam, every step has always been an act of determination. As a bilateral amputee, he’s never let his challenges stop him from working hard or living fully. But when both of his prosthetic foot shells began to fall apart—held together by duct tape and sheer will—walking became painful, unsafe, and increasingly difficult.
Sam’s foot shells had worn down to the point where they could no longer provide the stability and support he needed. Cracked, loose, and held together with tape, his prosthetic feet were no longer allowing him to walk comfortably or maintain his independence. Without proper foot shells, he risked injury, further wear on his prostheses, and the devastating possibility of losing his mobility altogether.
That’s when Steps4Love was called in.
Bethany Law, an alumna of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS), met Sam and immediately recognized the urgency of his situation. Knowing that access to replacement components is often a barrier for amputees, she reached out to our team at Steps4Love for help.
Moved by Sam’s perseverance and need, board member Kira Donnelly sprang into action. Through the support of our network, Kira was able to locate and provide brand-new foot shells—one for each of Sam’s prosthetic feet.
The impact was immediate.
With his new foot shells in place, Sam could once again move confidently, work safely, and reclaim the freedom that had been slowly slipping away. He no longer had to rely on makeshift fixes or live in fear of further damage to his equipment. Instead, he was back on solid ground—literally and figuratively.
At Steps4Love, we know that sometimes it’s the “small” things—like a properly fitted foot shell—that make the biggest difference. Sam’s story is a powerful reminder that restoring mobility is about more than walking; it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and the ability to keep showing up for life.
Thank you to Bethany Law, Kira Donnelly, and every supporter who helps us meet needs like Sam’s with compassion, speed, and care. Together, we are walking alongside amputees—step by step, shell by shell.
