Carissa Lane, PT, DPT
Board Member
Dr. Carissa Lane is a physical therapist and educator with specialized expertise in prosthetics and orthotics education within physical therapy programs. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology & Health Promotion from University of Wyoming and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northern Arizona University.
Dr. Lane began her clinical career in inpatient rehabilitation, where she developed a strong foundation in complex neurologic and orthopedic care. She subsequently expanded her clinical expertise across multiple practice settings, including outpatient neurologic rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedics, neuro wellness, home health, and digital health. This breadth of experience informs her integrative, clinically grounded approach to teaching and curriculum design.
Since August 2021, Dr. Lane has served as a contributing faculty member at University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, specializing in Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Assistive Technology (POAT). In this role, she has played a key part in developing and delivering orthotics and prosthetics curriculum across multiple physical therapy programs nationwide. She currently supports student learning as a lab instructor in POAT, Patient Examination, Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, Integrated Clinical Learning, and Health Promotion, Fitness, and Wellness courses across programs in Florida. Her academic interests include clinical reasoning in orthotic and prosthetic prescription, gait analysis, and application of assistive technologies in diverse patient populations.
Dr. Lane has contributed to the scholarly advancement of the profession through published research on foot and ankle mechanics and has presented her work at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting. In addition to her academic and clinical roles, she serves as a board member for Steps 4 Love, reflecting her commitment to community engagement, service, and advocacy within healthcare and rehabilitation.
